About the event

Curated and hosted by Prof. Inge Hermann

Social determinants of health, such as education, living conditions, income, health care system access, and infrastructure, are well-established drivers of these disparities and are receiving increasing attention in terms of research, policy, and practice. Less attention, however, has been given to how innovations themselves—specifically health care innovations—can create or perpetuate health inequalities.

This workshop is designed to bring together students, researchers, innovators, policy makers, and community leaders to explore and develop strategies for creating more equitable and inclusive technology ecosystems. By addressing systemic barriers and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in tech innovation, we aim to cultivate an environment where technology serves and empowers all communities.

Learning Objectives:

● Understand the systemic barriers to equitable and inclusive technology innovation and the impact on underrepresented communities.

● Identify strategies and best practices for integrating DEI principles into all stages of technology development and deployment.
