Open Source LLMs and the Swiss AI Initiative
The Swiss AI Initiative, led by ETHZ and EPFL, aims to build Generative AI Foundation Models in Switzerland. Involving over 70 professors and leveraging 10M GPU hours on the Alps supercomputer, this track presents work on a Swiss LLM, climate models, and a foundation model for Science.

The Swiss AI Initiative is a national research effort led by ETHZ and EPFL with the goal of building Generative AI Foundation Models in Switzerland. The area involves over 70 professors from many Swiss academic institutions. With a commitment of 10M GPU hours on the new Alps supercomputer at CSCS in Ticino, the different areas have the capability to perform state-of-the-art research at a large scale. In this track, the leads of the various areas will present their work. This includes an LLM for Switzerland and its alignment, climate models, and a foundation model for Science.
